Hello and welcome to the place where your Heart remembers it's Magic!! We are Belinda, Ross 'Gecko' & Indee Cat and we have been travelling Australia delivering inspirational professional development workshops, children's incursions, live sound meditations and consultations for the last decade, whilst working with children and the land for the last 20 years. We LOVE the Land!!! As we all grew up on the Land (Belinda and Indee on a farm in Loveday, SA and Gecko Berry Springs, NT) but then we found ourselves in the city of Perth! Whilst we have a Magical home and a very enchanting garden our Spirits continued to call us back to the land and the yearning became so beautiful that we followed the call. So we began our 'Outback with our Cat Tour' in September 2016 driving, camping, exploring, appreciating and sharing with as many Children, Educators and Community. We aim to immerse your team in our earthly playful energy, free of expectations just a trust in the Magic that will be created together. Whilst it is Very important for us to connect back to our roots which are that of Natures ways, it is equally important that we continue our dream of connecting with as many Children and Adults to make Life and Learning Magical. Feel free to join us on the adventure! Our Vision is based upon the 4 Ms being Magic, Mother Earth, Mindfulness and Music... Magic to us is encouraging the beauty, joy, playfulness, laughter and freedom of life. It is about embracing authenticity of Self, connecting to your gifts and sharing your Magic your unique way. Mindfulness to us is being still to hear your inner wisdom void of expectations and beliefs of others. Mindfulness works hand in hand with gratitude, meditation, questioning and practicing presence, which we feel are the keys to growth and new discoveries of Self and the World. Mother Earth to us a deep truthful connection and love for our natural world and the benefits she brings of Happiness, Health and Harmony in your life. To us Mother Earth is the greatest school :) Music to us soothes the Soul, frees the Spirit and makes our Heart sing. Music is Unity in Diversity, it can be a wonderful expression showcasing the richness of cultures -it's a universal language. We Love Music for how it heals and transforms life so Magically! We would like to start off by talking about what we have done over the past month. As you may have seen from our room, we have been Focusing on our cultures and what makes us special.  It has been so wonderful learning about all of the wonderful culturally diverse backgrounds we have in our centre.  

The children have also really enjoyed learning about all the colours as each day we have observed the children talking to their friends about what colour clothes they are wearing.

Our aim for this month is to create engaging experiences and spaces for the children to enjoy. We also want to teach the children self-help skills such as wiping their own face/nose, putting their scraps in the bin and washing their hands.

Toddler Time  

Hi there and WELCOME to our new friends!   Sofia, Otto, Melokai, Xavier, Harrison and Olivia have all transitioned from the Nursery class to the big Toddler room! They are doing so well and have settled in extremely well! 

We feel it's important to take the time to reflect on the learning that has taken place in recent months. This process allows educators to recognise the achievements of the children and themselves while providing valuable information for future planning. We have been focusing on children being independent, teaching them self-help skills. The children have been practising dressing themselves, hygiene skills and being responsible for their own learning environment which includes packing resources away.

We have also starting to focus on number and repetitive games to enhance these skills.  When the children are washing their hands or having a nappy change the educators will engage them with number songs.

Nursery News  

Educationally, playdough is great for children's learning and development.

The sensory nature of playdough allows babies to be naturally curious and explore the world around them using their senses. The soft properties of play dough make it fun for investigation and exploration as well.

It is very beneficial for fine motor development and strengthening little fingers, hands and wrists, this makes them ready for pencil and scissor control later on. Each one of these different actions aids fine motor development in a different way, not to mention hand-eye coordination and general concentration.

As tactile play, play dough can be squashed, squeezed, rolled, flattened, chopped, cut, and poked. These words can be used as the baby manipulates the play dough thus expanding their vocabulary. Asking questions leads to listening, although there may not be a coherent response. Maths concepts are developed when they learn how to make shapes and different sizes.

Our playdough recipe:

1 cup baby cereal

1 cup corn flour

½ cup warm water

3 tbsp coconut oil

Food colour

Mix well.

Store in a ziplock bag in the fridge for a week

Kindergarten News

So far this year we have been learning about the planets, how to tell the time, how to count to 100, how to write our first and last names, as well as learning a different letter of the alphabet each week. We learn what sound it makes, how to write it, and things that start with that letter. The children are also enjoying learning about dinosaurs of late, so us teachers thought we would set up one Saturday morning for who ever is interested to come along with your child and join us to see the dinosaurs at the museum. Date to be confirmed please let myself or Rachael know if you are interested in bringing you child along.

It has also been very exciting that our little garden has begun to grow. The children have been checking it everyday and finally we had a few strawberries and tomatoes for them to try.

Our share and tell roster is also working really well with the children bringing in some really great things to share, if you don't know when your child's share and tell day is or you just need reminding it is on our glass door as you walk into our room.

Lastly we have started doing yoga everyday with the children before rest time to help them whine down and relax they all seem to enjoy it as it is in a fun story telling way. We have also started working on songs for our graduation night which is fast approaching as well as the Christmas concert so you may have heard your children practising at home. 

Sustainability Practices in Childcare

What does it all mean man? 

Sustainability in early childhood education is an important part of the curriculum and should be incorporated into each and every service setting. 

What is Sustainability?

Sustainability is "environment education". Learning about the environment and how natural systems function. It's everything that we need for our survival and well being relating directly to our natural environment.

Sustainable Education

As educators, we need to include education about and for the environment which may include:

As Educator we will: 

  • Engage children in discussions about sustainable practices. Such as noticing how a garbage bin is full, how food and scraps left over after meal times etc.
  • Encourage children to participate in a recycling program (recycling bins for cardboard, plastic and paper) or involve them in developing new strategies for recycling materials (using donated materials for art n craft or donating materials to council clean ups etc.)
  • For older children, environmental issues such as drought or daily weather reports including updates on air quality and pollution levels should be discussed during morning group time or and a chart to record these findings should be made as visuals within the room.
  • For Preschoolers, choose "Energy Savers" – responsible for noticing lights, fans and other appliances left on when not in use. Likewise, choose 'Water Savers" – responsible for noticing taps left on and other wasted water.
