Welcome Welcome Welcome!

We are thrilled to welcome all of our new Daisy Hill ELC additions. We hope that your stay with us is enjoyable and that you and your children have lasting memories for years to come.  We have some housekeeping to take care of as it is the start of the year.

* Please be mindful about collection times.  We love and even encourage having our parents as volunteers in the centre so we just ask that you try and park in a spot that is not blocking another parent in.  However, I do realise it is a tight car park and is sometimes unavoidable.

* Parent/ Teacher communications- We love our parents and our chats! Buuuuuut we do have the primary responsibility of supervising and engaging the children in our care.  We encourage our families to make enquiries about their child's day and have a quick chat but if there is a conversation that you know might take more than a few minutes we are happy to arrange a time for your to speak with your child's teacher without such a limited time frame.

*Naming belongings- Please ensure that your children's belongings are labelled.

Please feel free to see me with any queries, my door is always open

Nursery News

Welcome to all of our new little faces in the Nursery classroom.

Our focus is on Health and well-being

Did you know healthy foods keep active children alert and focused and gives them the nutrition they need every day?It doesn't have to be difficult, time-consuming or expensive. For example; finger sandwiches and rolls are simple and easy to prepare. Here are some simple, tasty and nutritious ideas for you to try when preparing food for your child.

A good helping of fruit and vegetables- Fresh fruit is easy. You can also try a tub of canned fruit or chopped fresh strawberries, pineapple or melon or even a small box or bag of dried fruit. Raw vegies such as carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes, cucumber or capsicum strips are popular as a snack. Starchy food- Like bread, rice, potatoes and pasta. Have a variety to choose from, such as wholegrain, wholemeal or high fibre breads, such as seeded rolls, Lebanese bread, pita, lavash, bagels; brown and white rice, tricolour pasta or rice cakes. Lean protein-Like tuna or salmon (fresh or canned in spring water or oils such as canola, sunflower or olive oil); boiled eggs; beans; or lean meat such as beef or chicken Dairy food- like yoghurt, cheese or milk. Healthy choices-look at food labels to help you choose the products that are lowest in saturated fat, total fat, sugar and salt. Avoid high fat spreads and try a little avocado, low fat mayonnaise, mustard or ricotta cheese instead.

We will also be doing a lot of water play and outdoor play (when the warmer weather allows us) so please remember to pack a spare change of clothes.

If you have any recycles materials at home that you think we could use or play with in our classroom, please bring them in for us!

Bye for now,

Lyn and Linzi

Explorers Are Us!

Hi there and welcome to another month at Daisy Hill ELC!

Our focus in our classroom is multiculturalism.  We are very blessed to have such a diverse and rich tapestry of culture within our service. We want to ensure that we are being culturally inclusive and respectful, which is why we turn to our families for support.  We are currently undergoing culture sharing and education.  We have started an "All about us" wall in our classroom that is partially reflective of some of our cultural heritage.  If you feel that you and your wonderful family can contribute, please see our staff for more information.

Toilet training is in  full steam ahead! The children are doing wonderfully and should be commended for doing so well.  With our reminders the children are even starting to self regulate and become more aware of their toileting needs. Well done everyone!

*Reminder- Please remember to bring in a hat and a water bottle that is labelled with your child's name on it every day.

Until next time,

Shar and Mau

 Toddler Time

Hi Everyone,

Our classroom focus has been on relationships and caring for one another. As you may be aware Toddlers do not always have or can use verbal communication as a means to be understood. Non-verbal communication is something you always do, knowingly or unknowingly. Through body language like the way you hold your body, you facial expressions, little gestures or through the tone of your voice

Another of our classroom focuses is "All about Us".  we are looking at an exploring our senses and all thing, our body. You will see the product of these conversations and experiences around our classroom.

We also want to bring your attention to the program and the daily book.  This is a great place to see daily events.  we get up to so many fun things throughout our day, we want to share them with you!

Please feel free to see either myself (Trudy) or Marivic if you need any assistance.

Kindergarten News

As we look forward to this year, I would like to outline some of my ideas about the direction of the Children's Learning. As always, I welcome all families input about the activities you would like your children to engage in. I would like to outline some examples about what I would like to achieve with the children throughout the year;
1) The focus so far has been on the Children getting to know all of their friends and knowing about themselves. This is crucial for social skills, friendship building and knowing themselves as learners. This will be a continuing undercurrent all year long.
2) From now, Literacy and Numeracy will be encouraged through scaffolding child initiated activities and also Focused Teacher Sessions. These sessions will be short to begin with. Group lessons, such as reading and singing, will be for the whole class to participate in. These group lessons will be one time a day, then 2 times a day when the children are ready.

3) Focused teacher sessions will be small group or individual. These will be based on children's needs, Teacher observations and current group time focus. These sessions may be anything from phonics and math problems, to pencil grip and fine motor muscle development.

4) In June/July, a mid-year report will be going home to families. This will be based on the Outcomes from the Queensland Kindergarten Guideline.

5) An Kindergarten Information pack will be going home to families shortly. Included in this pack is a "School Readiness Check": as well as 3-5 year old developmental milestones. Over the next few weeks, I will be informally completing these documents with each of the children. Families are encouraged to complete their own copies of these documents at home.

I look forward to continuing to work with all of the families and your beautiful children,

Miss Katie & Miss Telaine
