January Newsletter

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

I hope you have all had a great end to 2017 and I look forward to a fantastic 2018 with you all.

As some of you may know, I have just returned from Maternity Leave and am settling back in to the busy role as Centre Manager.  My daughter is also attending the Centre in the Nursery room and she is now 9mths old.  The time has just flown!  There are some families who have started at the Centre in the last nine months that I am yet to meet but I would love to introduce myself.  Please feel free to approach me at the front desk or contact me via phone or email.  If there is something you would like me to help you with in regards to your accounts, it is best to send me an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or you can see me in person in the office between 8am - 4:30pm, thank you.

Until next month...

Upcoming Events

We have lots of exciting events coming up throughout the year so please keep up to date with the newsletters and notices around the Centre. We also have a Calendar of Events displayed in the foyer that you can view if you like.

Please remember room changes start Monday 22nd January.  You can check with your child's room Educators if you are unsure of the room your child will be moving too.  Please feel welcome to take a walk through the new room and speak to your child's new teachers if you have any questions.

On Tuesday, 23rd January we will be having the mobile library come to Centre to visit the Kindergarten rooms.  From 3pm the children will be able to look through the library and read some new, exciting books.  The children will also be able to participate in a story-time with the Librarian.

Friday 26th January is Austraila Day and a Public Holiday.  The Centre will be closed on this day.  Please remember that all booked days are paid for, including Public Holidays.

On Thursday 25th January, we will be having a sausage sizzle at the Centre to celebrate Australia Day.  The children will also be doing a lot of other activities for Australia Day in their rooms throughout the day.

In present-day Australia, celebrations reflect the diverse society and landscape of the nation and are marked by community and family events, reflections on Australian history, official community awards and citizenship ceremonies welcoming new members of the Australian community.

We will be celebrating Waitangi Day at the Centre on Tuesday 6th of February.  Each room will have different planned activities for the children to participate in.  If you have any suggestions for activities you would like to see the children do on this day please let the Educators know.

Waitangi Day, named after Waitangi where the Treaty of Waitangi was first signed, commemorates a significant day in the history of New Zealand. Ceremonies take place each year on 6 February to celebrate the signing of the treaty, New Zealand's founding document, on that date in 1840.

We will be celebrating Chinese New Year at the Centre on Friday 16th of February.  The children will be able to participate in special activities in their rooms on this day to help celebrate the beginning of the year of the Dog.

Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival in modern China, or simply the Lunar New Year, is an important Chinese festival celebrated at the turn of the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar.

Nursery

Happy New Year to all our families in the Nursery and a big welcome to our new babies and their families who started early this month: Ida, Zackiel and Win.  For our new families, I would like to introduce myself: I am Miss Arleen and I am the Lead Educator in the Nursery. This is my second year in the room and I am really so happy to see our former babies moved up to Toddlers Room last year and I am again excited to see new babies and families this 2018.  I will be working with Ms. Courtney and Ms. Khushi and we are truly enthusiastic and delighted to welcome everyone to an exciting new adventure with your children.

For the first few weeks our main focus especially on our new babies is settling and forming close attachments with them as it is very important that the children feel safe and confident with their new environment and build a close and loving bond with us. We will also slowly transition our older babies who will be moving up to Toddlers room next week in with their new teachers and routines.

Please feel free to come and have a chat with us regarding any concerns or suggestions you would want to include in our Nursery programme. We would love to hear ideas from our families.

We are truly looking forward to a fruitful, exciting and full of fun-learning, journey with your child this year. Until next time!

Your Nursery Educators:

Toddlers

A quick note to introduce myself to those who may not know me, I am Miss Kim and I have recently moved into the Toddler Room as the Senior Lead Educator.  I have been working with children now for 12 years and have experience with all age groups from 0-5 years :) I am very excited to come into the Toddler Room and I have a lot of fun experiences I would love to introduce to the children, please come and say hello and I am happy to answer any questions or concerns that you may have.

A lot has been happening in the toddler room already, we have changed the layout of the room and been very lucky to receive some brand new toys and equipment :) As this is a new group of children for me I have spent the first few weeks getting to know the children and seeing where they are all at with their development.  We are starting off the year with the basics; colours, shapes and counting. The children are already showing knowledge of some colours and shapes which is fantastic to see. We will also be encouraging self help skill throughout the day to build on independence; for example, using tongs to serve themselves morning tea and afternoon tea, attempting to put on our own shoe and socks, putting our own belongings away in our bags, etc...

I look forward to an exciting year ahead in the Toddler Room.

Miss Kim, Miss Praxa, Miss Cariad & Miss Esther

Tweenies

Welcome to Tweenies room for 2018.  My name is Miss Faapepe and I am the Senior Lead Educator in Tweenies this year.  I am very excited to be able to work with your children and look forward to watching them grow and develop as they learn through play based activities.

We will be spending most of our first weeks settling children and learning where each child's development is at before moving on to more exciting learning in February.  If you have any suggestions on what you would like to see the children participating in please feel free to speak with me or one of the other room Educators.

Miss Faapepe, Miss Sophia and Miss Cassandra

Junior Kindy

Hello and welcome to 2018 in the Jnr Kindy Room. Your teachers for this year will be Miss Sarai Snr Lead Educator, Miss Christine Lead Educator, Miss Vicki Lead Educator and Miss Hannah Assistant Educator. We are very much looking forward to welcoming all the children moving from Toddlers and Tweenies and their families. You will find the Educators friendly and welcoming, so if you have any concerns please don't hesitate to let us know as we are only too happy to help.

Just a brief run down of what our first months learning in Jnr Kindy will be; and that is, getting to know the children/educators, learning the routine of the room, teaching the children self help skills, learning the alphabet and numbers. It will be an exciting time for the children to engage in fun learning.

Miss Sarai, Miss Christine, Miss Vicki & Miss Hannah

Pre-Kindy

Hello and welcome to the Pre-Kindy room for 2018. This year the Educators in the room will be Miss Karen, Miss Casey and Miss Gayna, so please feel free to approach us with any concerns or queries you may have.

The first term will be getting to know your child and at what stage of learning they are at. Any input regarding your child's likes/dislikes/interests or family holidays would be greatly appreciated and of the utmost importance in getting to know your child.

As you are aware, beginning in January we had started supplying lunch as well as morning and afternoon tea to the children. They are adapting well with the changes from lunch box food to Centre food and we are finding that the children generally eat all the food provided and are even coming back for second helpings.

I have set up an email for the Pre-Kindy room This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.so if you would like email updates/reminders and communications, you can contact the Educators in the room and we will be checking emails daily.

A quick reminder to please name all of your child's belongings.
