Solar Energy has arrived at Footprints

​Furthering Footprints' commitment to sustainability within the centre, we are pleased to announce we have gone solar.  We have recently installed a solar energy system and now the panels on our roof are collecting renewable energy from the sun.

Did you know that modern society is extremely dependent on electricity generated by oil and coal, which both add to greenhouse gas build-up in the environment. Our homes, vehicles and technologies require immense amounts of energy, yet fossil fuel supplies are limited, however sunshine is not. Solar power is one of the most cleanest and reliable forms of renewable energy on offer.

A quick and basic run down of how the solar works is that the solar panels are made up of photovoltaic cells, that convert the sun's rays into direct current (DC) electricity through the day. The inverter connects the DC electricity that is generated by the solar panels into alternating current (AC) electricity. The AC electricity is sent from the inverter to your electrical panel to power your lights and appliances with the solar energy. Excess energy that is not used is sent back to the grid for use at night time when there is no sun, and to help offset the costs of your electricity.
