Mindful Moments...

When it comes to physical touch and affection, it is essential to consider a child's boundaries and preferences. As parents or caregivers, it is crucial to recognise and respect their wishes, even if they differ from our own. For instance, if a child does not want to be hugged or kissed, it is essential not to force physical contact upon them or use rewards to coax them into it. Instead, we should encourage and empower them to speak up for themselves and communicate their boundaries clearly. By doing so, we not only foster their sense of autonomy and self-worth, but we also teach them the value of mutual respect and healthy relationships. Ultimately, respecting a child's boundaries and preferences helps them develop healthy boundaries and an understanding of consent, which are essential life skills.

Building Connections

Research shows relationships are central to children developing acceptance, self-esteem and higher functioning thinking skills that contribute to positive learning and life outcomes (KidsMatter Early Childhood).

Good relationships early in life help children to connect with others, build positive friendships and support children to self-regulate their emotions.
