Every year our Service celebrates Diwali. This year our celebrations will occur on Friday 13 November.
About Diwali
Diwali, Divali, Deepavali is the Hindu festival of lights, usually lasting five days and celebrated during the Hindu Lunisolar month Kartika (between mid-October and mid-November). One of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, Diwali symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance".
Diwali - Day of Celebration
We will be participating in an array of activities for Diwali. Please see the list below:
- Diwali Performance - this is suitable for all ages. Children will see a different culture, experience their unique costumes, language and traditions. The show starts with a festival of lights parade and incorporate Bollywood Dancing with children getting involved too.
- Creating Rangoli - Rangoli is an art form, originating in the Indian subcontinent, in which patterns are created on the floor or the ground using quartz powder materials such as coloured rice, coloured sand or flower petals.
- Tasting Indian Sweets
- Cultural Dance
- Indian outfits are welcome to be worn.
- Making a Diya from clay
