Diwali

The word Diwali (or Deepavali as it's sometimes called) means "row of lights" in an Ancient language of India, called Sanskrit. During this festival, people decorate their homes with lights and oil lamps, called diyas. The lights and lamps are said to help Lakshmi find her way into peoples' homes, bringing prosperity in the year to come!

Celebrations

Diwali is celebrated annually at Kidz Magic. This year we will be celebrating on Wednesday 7 November.

Rangoli designs will be made with the children.  Rangoli is an art form, originating in the Indian subcontinent, in which patterns are created on the floor or the ground using materials such as colored rice, dry flour, colored sand or flower petals. It is usually made during Diwali or Tihar, Onam, Pongal and other Hindu festivals in the Indian subcontinent.

Traditional music will also be played, while the children learn some new dance moves.

We ask that children come dressed in traditional clothes and bring a plate of food to share for afternoon tea.

We will also have a Diwali performance on Wednesday afternoon commencing at 2:30pm. Please ensure payment is made at the office by Friday 2 November.

Photo's will be taken throughout the day. These photo's will then form part of our 2018 Diwali Celebrations Photo album.
