Earth Day

Our Sustainable Future...

At Kidz Magic we are committed to taking an active role in caring for our environment and contributing to a sustainable future.

Did you know that Earth Day is Saturday 22 April? It is recognised worldwide.

Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970 as a day to reflect on our planet, our environment and what we can do to foster respect and help keep them healthy.

We need your help...

It's important as educators and adults that we continue different types of activities and find interesting ways to embed sustainable practice and help children to love and respect their world throughout the year

We are asking if you can collect some recycled items with your child at home this weekend that they can bring with them next week. We have so many ways we can put recycled items to good use, while embedding sustainability within our program. Your trash is our treasure!

Items we are looking for

  • Kitchen Items - Jugs, measuring spoons, cups, bowls, place mats etc
  • Old photo frames
  • Plant pots, soil, watering cans
  • Formula tins, milo tins, milk lids, soft drink lids, plastic containers
  • Shells, feathers, stones, pine cones
  • Cane baskets, storage boxes, mirrors
  • Old hair dryers, key boards, phones, cameras
  • Craft off cuts, material off cuts, buttons, cotton reels
  • Wood off cuts

What are your hidden talents?

If you would like to help us teach the children how we can recycle items, we would love for you to join us in the classroom. If you love to sew - perhaps you could come and show the children how to use a sewing machine. Clothes don't just come from a shop!

Perhaps you love to garden - we are keen to revamp our vegetable gardens.

Wood work - come and teach the children how to use a hammer and nail - we might be builders one day!!!

Please feel free to share your hidden talents with us!

"Teaching children about the natural world should be seen as one of the most important events in their lives"

by Author Thomas Berry

Just try and remember that introducing and involving children in sustainable practises doesn't just have to mean whacking in a water tank, plonking down a worm farm and planting a few veg….there are so many ways to lead them down this path but don't forget to find ways to get them asking questions and actively engaging in the sustainability processes in your home.

Keep an eye out for our Recycled Projects !!
