Quality Practices - Where are we heading?

 What is trauma- informed practice?

Trauma-informed practice in early learning focuses on fostering safety, trust, and resilience in children who have experienced trauma. It recognizes that trauma can disrupt a child's sense of safety and impact their ability to form positive relationships. By creating a nurturing and supportive environment grounded in trust, choice, and collaboration, educators can help children overcome fear and build strong foundations for growth and healing.

Educators respectfully and mindfully building connecting with children is the foundation to providing appropriate spaces that children can access and engage in. As part of transforming our spaces we have considered how changing the wording for spaces and routines allows our educators to reflect and think about how they will meaningfully engage with groups of children throughout the day.

Inviting 'connection time' instead of 'group time'.

During connection time educators invite children to be in a place with them that is comfortable to them, sitting, standing, lying down, fidgeting with a resource or playing close by. Being comfortable looks and feels different for each person, allowing children to come in and participate in a way that comfortable for them sends a message that we (educators) value children completely promoting healthy attachments and social-emotional development in young children. Connection time isn't at a set time, rather moments where educators notice a child or children might need to regulate and slow things down. This establishes a sense of safety and trust as children can seek support when needed.

When educators and children have built a secure base through connection, they are able to explore their world around them, strong connections foster a sense of belonging and acceptance, allowing children to feel confident in their ability to learn and take risks and explore new challenges.

We understand that connection extends beyond the child-educator relationship and includes building connections with families. Collaborating with families in a respectful and supportive manner enhances the child's sense of belonging and reinforces the child's support system. By establishing connections with families, educators gain valuable insights into the child's experiences, needs, and strengths, enabling them to provide more effective support within the service.

Family Perspective

Here at Kidz Magic Reflections are an ongoing occurrence that enables us educators to think honestly about our professional practice and ideas. It challenges us to take a step back to analyse our personal experiences to enhance learning and speculate upon the future and act.

Reflective practice gives a better understanding of why things happen. It assists us to recognise good practice as well as change and improve what is not working well.

We believe that children learn the most when Educators reflect on their own values and consider how their views of children and childhood impact on their practice.

Professional Networking

"Everyone you will ever meet knows something you don't"

Educational leaders in children's education and care services has an influential role in inspiring, motivating, affirming and also challenging or extending the practice and pedagogy of educators.

Today we invited Miss Sarah from our sister service Kidz Magic Capestone to join us in a professional conversation to provide curriculum direction and guidance for our Educator's.

Effective leadership builds and promotes a positive organisational culture and professional learning community (NQS Standard 7.2).

Photographs in the Service

Due to privacy of all involved photos and videos will not be allowed to be taken while on Kidz Magic premises. This includes from your personal phone or hand-held cameras.

There may be other children, family or staff who do not wish their photos to be shared on social media sites. We also need to think of all situations –

  • Children maybe in foster care
  • Court orders might be in place
  • Other families don't give approval of their child's photo to be shared

As it is too difficult to monitor if every photo taken is ok to be shared, we have decided to place a blanket rule of no personal photos or video while on our premises.

When there are centre events, we will take photos as a centre and share with our families. As only one person controls this platform (that being myself) we can be sure that the photos that are shared on our Facebook page has the correct permissions in place.

If you are seen taking photos or videos you will be asked to delete them immediately in the presence of a staff member.

If you have any further question in relation to this, please do not hesitate to ask.

Safety First

We have been noticing that doors are being left open when families are arriving or leaving. In the safety of all involved we ask that you close all doors behind you when at the service.

Studio News

We are already in the month of May and we have welcomed another little friend, Kora, to our room.

We have individualized our program quite significantly to ensure that each child's interests and developmental stages are being planned and implemented through learning environments and learning experiences. For the past few weeks, we have been focusing a lot on fine and gross motor development, hand-eye coordination and balancing skills, which the children seem to be really enjoying. We have also started introducing some simple 'self-help' skills that are age appropriate and becoming part of our everyday routines.

As the weather is starting to cool down, please ensure that you are dressing and packing warm clothes for your child. We are also encouraging sun safety amongst the children, so please ensure that you a packing a hat for your child as well as a pair of shoes. Please also ensure that you are packing a fitted and flat sheet for your child's bed as well as a drink bottle.

Miss Candace & Miss Anjelica

Hello and welcome back with the news about your child's learning. We hope you all had great month.

First of all, we would like to welcome Maya and Iman. We want to make sure that they are feeling comfortable and safe in the new room environment and with educators.

Educators are focusing on encouraging and inviting the children to get involved during group time. We have been embedding indigenous perspectives into our everyday practices. We initiated this by starting each day with Acknowledgement of Country. This is done with the children as a group, we have focused a lot around literacy and language. Children participate in reading books daily which has helped them with the extension of their vocabulary.

Children have been learning about primary colours by participating in different activities. Children have also made different arts and craft.

Currently Children are developing their gross motor skills through climbing obstacle course, wooden logs, balancing beams, stepping stones.

Friendly Reminder: -

  • Please pack spare warm clothes for your child as it is getting cold.
  • Please label your child's belongings (bottles, hats, shoes and spare clothes)

If you have any questions, please feel free to approach the educators in the room and they will be able to assist you.

Welcome back with the news about your child's learning in the month of May. In past few months, we were focusing on settling children into our room routine, talking to the families about their routines, and helping them to learn a lot while playing which is helping them to feel safe, secure and comfortable and its helpful for them to settle into the room environment.

In this month, we are talking to children about the importance of fruits and vegetable, and why are we eating them? What do they look like? It is helping them to learn about different fruits and vegetables. To help children to learn more easily, educators are providing them with various activities like fruits and vegetable collage, Painting fruits/vegetables and talking to children about fruits and vegetables and importance of it during group time.

To help children with developing their communication, we are talking and discussing with children one to one or in a group, we are reading books about various topics. It is helpful for children to develop their communication skills.

Reminder:

  • As weather is changing and we are moving towards more colder weather in coming months, it's always good to have some spare warm clothes in your child's bag.
  • We are also always reminding children, to wash their hands before/after they eat their meals, or any other time they need to.
  • If you have any concern about your child's learning, please feel free to talk to one of our friendly educators, they will be able to assist you with.
  • Also, if you want us to provide for your child any special sunscreen, medication or apply nappy rash cream, please provide with a chemist label.

Until then………

Miss Monica, Miss Zubaida

In our Lilly Pilly room, the children are now very familiar with our daily room routines and have been developing their social/ language skills around their educators and peers through planned group experiences.

We have been focusing on engaging in planned group experiences daily where the children can interact with each other and provide their own ideas using their imaginations and interests. We have also been engaging in story time daily where the children will sit in a circle together and listen to their educators reading a book. The children enjoy story times as it encourages them to be curious and share their own ideas, feelings and emotions.

This month, we have and will continue to learn about our colours as the children have been showing interest towards learning the colour names and what each colour looks like, further developing their colour recognition skills. Whether it be exploring with blocks or painting, the children will mention the colour names to their educators. We will encourage them and support them through various different planned experiences where we will learn about a different colour every day for the next 2 weeks.

The children are also developing their gross motor skills outdoors as they show more confidence and greater strength whether it be climbing up the ropes or exploring on the obstacle course. They have been interacting with their peers, sharing and taking turns throughout the day.

Just a reminder, please remember to label your child's belongings and also pack some spare clothes including a jumper for your child.

If you have any questions, please approach the educators in the room and they will be able to assist you.

Thankyou

Miss Simran & Miss Sukh

Hello paperbark families.

We welcomed new friends, Kaavya and Aneissa to the Paperbark room we are so glad to see our new friends are already settled in and happy.

In the past two months children have been having so much fun while learning through play.

Children have been learning about body parts, number counting, colours and major focus on learning about Sea life and its different sea creatures. Children have been learning about body parts and number counting by singing together during connection time. Children also have been learning about sea creatures by reading books and participating in vast art and craft activities and sensory play as well. We have created an Ocean Life wall in the paperbark room through which children are continuously naming and learning the sea creatures.

For early April, children have been engaged in different Easter craft activities. We also had an Easter Bunny visit and Easter Hat Parade. For Easter we have created a wall presenting children's art and craft creations. We also had a Dental visit for the Centre in April and where we talked about dental care by doing different fun activities such as role play "I am a dentist", action songs of dental care about "good and bad teeth".

Children also participated in lots of Art and craft activities to mark ANZAC Day.

We have also celebrated Leo's 3rd Birthday.

Children have been participating in Mother's Day activities for the month of May.

Children have been developing their fine, gross motors, cognitive, social, language imagination skills throughout their days and our programming.

Music and movement are big part of our routine, and we will continue to do it and add some more musical instruments.

We will continue to extend your interest and create different meaningful activities.

**Ready to start Toilet training? We kindly encourage all children to start toilet training. NO FORCE. We will share with you how your child is going with toilet training.

**Label your child's belongings please

Little friendships have been built in the Paperbark room.

We are so happy to continue to work with your child.

Miss. Fazia, Miss Dimple and Miss Emma.

The children in the Wattle Room have been developing their self-help skills and looking after their belongings. The children can now put on their own socks and shoes, put their belongings away in their locker, pack up their own sheets and are starting to make their own beds. The children are using self-regulation more – starting to manage their emotions better, starting to have more empathy for their peers, and also learning to use their manners – please, thank you, excuse me.

The children are settling better and able to separate from their parents in the morning more easily now.

The children have been learning the letters, starting to recognise text and starting to write letters. A writing area was set up for the children to practise this, and sand trays for the children to write in.

A colour coded library system in a library area was set up for the children to learn about how a community library works and about respecting the books, treating the books carefully, not ripping them, so others can look at the books too, and choosing another book if the one you want is currently out (being used), until that book is available.

The children have also been exploring mathematical and scientific principles. They have been participating in sorting, order, matching, puzzle solving, shapes and number recognition and understanding of numbers. They have experienced chemical reactions through volcanic explosion experiment, slime and goop.

The children have had many opportunities for creative expression through different forms of art, different painting techniques, creating with magic sand, snow foam, sand and mud.

The Wattle Room got some new items in to engage the children with, water paints and coloured paper and stationery items for arts and craft, beads for threading, and in Home Corner (always a favourite) - new clothes to dress the baby dolls up, and some new Home Corner items.

Some of the children have enjoyed participating in Billy's Buddies (an extra curriculum sports activity), and most have been to try this out.

Kindergarten News

 Welcome to term 2,

It has been a busy start to term in kindy 1.

Last month we explored our eco-systems and how we can maintain them and keep them clean. We all collaborated as a group and extended on our learning of keeping Australia clean through looking at how living and nonliving things co-habitat together to provide us with food, water and medicines.

We have also been busy engaging in being creative and imaginative through arts, crafts and role-play. We have been sharing our creations with each other and collaborating as a group. By collaborating, we explore and expand on our language as we have been asking each other open-ended questions and giving great answers.

When children ask questions, it is helping the development of their cognitive skills, such as how they think, explore, and solve problems.

Curiosity is the source of knowledge; you can't have one without the other.

We will continue exploring and learning throughout the month of May and beyond. If you would like your child to explore a topic of interest, please feel free to send Miss Ruby or myself a message and we can implement this within our program. You are also free to send us feedback on our monthly program that is available on Xap.

Just a quick reminder that children are required to have bed sheets, a hat and a drink bottle each day that they attend.

Miss Jacqui and Miss Ruby

Welcome back to our May newsletter. This month, the children in Kindy 2 have shown a great interest in dramatic play and building blocks.

The children have demonstrated extraordinary imagination and creativity in the dramatic play area, eagerly participating in various role-playing activities such as pretending to be mothers, chef, Red Riding Hood, builder, and teachers. Through these activities, the children have developed their social, emotional, communication, and cognitive skills in a fun way. They are also refining their negotiation skills as they learn to communicate their thoughts effectively, listen to others' viewpoints, and come up with mutually agreed-upon solutions.

Similarly, the block area has been a popular choice among the children as they utilise their problem-solving skills to build different structures, including water parks, towers, bridges, and houses. They worked together and communicated effectively to achieve their goals.

In Term 2, we will be incorporating cooking experiences and simple science exploration into our curriculum based on the children's observations. We are committed to designing a varied curriculum that meets the children's interests, providing a stimulating and engaging learning environment. We are supporting the child's agency by involving the children in decision making. Supporting children to negotiate a resolution rather than solving it for them. Providing opportunities for children to set goals for learning. Providing opportunities for children to learn through co-researching with educators and peers. Offering choices of experiences based on what children are interested in learning about.

As the weather begins to cool down, we kindly remind parents of the importance of ensuring that their child has appropriate clothing in their school bag. Please equip your child's school bag with extra clothes such as jackets, long sleeve, and long pants to keep them warm and comfortable during the winter months.

We are proud of the progress our children have made this month and excited to witness their continued growth and development. As always, we thank you for your unwavering support and involvement in your child's education.

Sincerely,

Miss Payal and Elfin
