The last month was busy with new families joining our family at Underwood, so we warmly welcome, Zoe, Alexander, Zayaan, Thanasi, and Morgan.

21st March is Harmony Day

Harmony Day is a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home - from the traditional owners of this land to those who have come from many countries around the world.

Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Day which signifies social communication and meaningful conversations

We at Underwood are going to Celebrate on Friday 20th March, we encourage you to dress your children in ORANGE and welcome any family who wishes to share their traditional family meals, customs, and cultural dress.

On Educa we asked for families to share some of their home with us, we have dedicated space in the hallway to share our families. Our babies are becoming more aware of their surroundings, while they are developing their own identity. To help us understand families better, can you please bring along a photo/s of your family members including pets, so we can put them on our community wall. This will help us recognize family members, different family types, as well as help, extend our vocabulary. We would love for you to share information with us about your nationality so we can learn about different cultures, while still recognizing we are one. If you have anything to help us learn about your family heritage feel free to bring in something ie Flags, cooking traditional dishes, currency, photos from your home. Looking forward to sharing our stories.

Miss Allison is taking a small beach holiday from the 13th March, Leaving the little ones in the very capable hands of Megha and Kanako.

Until next time Allison and Megha

 Toddler News

First of all, I would like to send out a big congratulations to Lylah's family on the arrival of their new baby girl! She is absolutely beautiful and I know Lylah is going to be such a great big proud sister.

A little bit of house keeping. Thank you everyone for bringing in new tooth brushes for your children. This helps our routine run smoothly by participating in tooth brushing, which the toddlers enjoy very much. This small group experience helps teach the toddlers a range of social skills, healthy choices, self help, communication skills and cognitive skills. Expanding on our self-help skills is a big goal in our room along with positive social interactions between the class. We have also noticed our little toddlers are growing fast and are out growing a few hats. Please check your child's hat and ensure it fits comfortably, as well as being clearly labeled with your child's name.

At the moment we have a few children getting ready to transition up to the Junior Kindy room. This is a very exciting time for them as they get to reconnect with past toddlers, make new friends, as well as learn and discover new experiences in an older room.

Inside our toddler room we are powering away with lots of sensory based experiences. From painting, to cooking, water play and food-based play, the toddlers are enjoying the exploration of different textures, smells and tastes. Everyone is growing up and reaching milestones so quickly and confidently. Both myself and Mimi enjoy watching all the toddlers learn, discover, play and grow everyday. So many new experiences to find and enjoy together.

We are still collecting photos of our toddler's families to display on our wall in the hallway. Together with the nursery room we are bringing all of our children together to create a wall of our family's traditions and cultures. Another big part of belonging and connectedness is celebrating specials days and events together. Harmony day this year is on the 21st March in Australia. We celebrate Harmony Day to promote diversity and acceptance of other cultures. Harmony Day aims to start a conversation about heritage, culture and community. We have decided together to celebrate Harmony Day at the centre on Friday the 20th March 2020. We are encouraging everyone to wear orange and are sending out the opportunity for families to share with us any traditional home meals that may be enjoyed at your house and any culture dress that reflects your heritage or community. Any questions please don't hesitate to ask any either myself or Miss Mimi.

Thanks

Miss Sheree and Miss Mimi
