August-News

News this August.

Hello families and welcome to another office edition of our newsletter.

We have had alot of activity within the centre over the last month.

Rackley Swim School Instructors,Cheryl and Stacey visited our older rooms to talk about water safety. Living in the Queensland where the weather is warm and swimming and water play are extremely common, this is such an important subject that all children should learn about. We encourage parents to discuss this with your children as well.

We have just completed our winter pie drive. Thank you to all of you who participated and we hope that you enjoy your yummy pies and treats. Homestyle Bake never disappoint.

Our Garden Project.

As mentioned last month, we have acquired some free plants from Brisbane City Council. Our children have begun planting, creating and organising the garden space at the back of the yard. There has been a lot of activity and learning about plants and caring for the environment.  The latest addition are logs to border the area. We would greatly appreciate any donations of garden items that we can add to our area. We have created a list of items we could use and this is posted on our doors.

Through gardening children learn:

  • Responsibility – from caring for plants
  • Understanding – as they learn about cause and effect (for example, plants die without water, weeds compete with plants)
  • Self-confidence – from achieving their goals and enjoying the food they have grown
  • Love of nature – a chance to learn about the outdoor environment in a safe and pleasant place
  • Reasoning and discovery – learning about the science of plants, animals, weather, the environment, nutrition and simple construction
  • Physical activity – doing something fun and productive
  • Cooperation – including shared play activity and teamwork
  • Creativity – finding new and exciting ways to grow food
  • Nutrition – learning about where fresh food comes from

We have allocated the area to the right of the front door for pram parking.  If you are leaving a pram or stroller at the centre could you please place it in the front gated area and select a tag off the wall if you want to name it. Unfortunately we are no longer able to store prams and car seats in the side office.

We would like to remind parents that our breakfast policy states that we finish serving breakfast at 7.30am. If you are bringing your child into the centre after this time can you please make sure they have had breakfast.

    Lost Property

We have a lot of lost property on the shelves in the gated yard area. Could all parents please check this for your child's belongings.
