Welcome to February!

We are happy to have had many events happening throughout the centre this month, with the children all settling into their rooms and getting to know thier Educators.  

Our extra curricular activities are back in full swing:

Happy Feet is on Tuesday

Yoga is on Wednesday ( Kindy and Pre Kindy children only, and is paid by the centre)

Gymnastics and Grasshoppers Soccer is on Thursday.

If you would like your child to attend any of these, please let us know. The cost of these are around $10 per lesson and paid directly to the companies.

Week beginning 15th March- Harmony day activities, wear orange on Friday 19th March

Week beginning 22nd March- Earth hour activities focussing on sustainability and the environment.

Easter activities will be the week beginning 29th March


Progressive Morning Teas

The children are now participating in progressive morning teas as this gives children a choice of when to end their play and eat. Children are given reminders and prompts to eat, and a roll is kept to ensure everyone has eaten. 

Our older children are now helping prepare the tables for morning tea. As part of a group they are making decisions & helping stretch out the table cloths so they would fit on the tables.  They are helping with placing the water bottles on the table for the children who were going to have some morning tea. This helps the children develop their self help skills, problem solve & role play.

Theorist Steiner believes that providing real life tasks for children gives them a sense of belonging & connectedness

The children are using their self help skills to make choices on what food they were going to have for morning tea, and are using their fine motor skills to manipulate the tongs to carry the food across to their plates, some of the children needed a bit of assistance but overall they succeed in serving themselves. This learning experience is linked to theorist Steiner, who believes that by providing real life tasks to children gives them a sense of belonging & connectedness, theorist Maslow. 

After their meals, the children are now washing their dishes, up, taking turns to wash their plate & stack in the drying rack. Again, the children are applying their knowledge of self help skills to clean up after themselves, they are also using their eye-hand co-ordination, cognitive & fine motor skills to combine holding their plate in one hand while using the other hand to wash their plate using the cloth.  We are very proud of their progress and willingness to learn these skills and to help each other.
