Welcome to our latest newsletter for Kidz Magic Capestone.

We are so pleased to see things starting to return to as normal as possible with the return of many of our wonderful families.

It has been so lovely to see you all back again and although things are still a little different around our rostering and staffing arrangements it's been so wonderful to see everyone again and to be able to enjoy all the magical things our centre has to offer alongside the children and families.

Although we are slowly seeing pandemic restrictions being lifted, we are still wanting to ensure all of our staff, children and parents entering the Centre are kept safe and healthy, so we would like to remind everyone to keep following the health and safety guidelines.

If you or your child are sick with flu-like symptoms, please do not attend the Centre until you have been seen by a doctor or been tested for Coronavirus and cleared as not contagious. We are trying to limit the amount of social contact between people entering the centre, so we continue to ask that only one parent or guardian enters the Centre to drop off and pick up their children and to please only stay for a reasonable amount of time to complete the drop-off and say goodbye. Also please ensure to use the hand sanitiser provided upon entering and exiting the Centre.

Thank you to everyone who is following these guidelines, it is greatly appreciated!

The biggest thanks go out to our amazing team here at Kidz Magic Capestone.  Your positive attitude and passion to work hard at supporting our children and families to return to the same beautiful environment has been so encouraging to see.

A few things we are collecting that families may be able to support with are:

  • Any off-cuts of plants
  • Baskets
  • Loose parts items
  • Books
  • Arts and craft items
  • Cereal boxes and other empty cardboard boxes from the pantry

Thank you very much,

Hayley Le | Kidz Magic - Capestone

Hello from Nursery 2

We have been concentrating on getting back into our usual routine now that most of our friends have returned.

This month we have enjoyed learning some more fine motor skills such as glueing feathers and shapes onto paper which teaches us how to manipulate and use our fingers, along with messy/sensory play using goop which is also teaching us to use our hands to touch and move the mixture.Last week we went for a walk to the sandpit in the senior yard which the children loved. They had so much fun digging and measuring out the sand into containers, this promotes physical development using large muscles and hand/eye co-ordination.

Our latest experience has been making a "pond" for our 5 Little Ducks. We poured coloured rice into a container and the children have been using their sensory, fine motor and language skills as we count the ducks and move them around.

Some of the special moments this month have been…..Emmy has taken her first steps, we welcomed back Ari, Amal and Hudson and some of us tried Sushi which was an interesting experience. All of the children are enjoying their meal times and willing to try different types of food.

Keep in mind we have a couple of shows coming up soon which have been rescheduled from earlier this year.

We have noticed that some of our children are starting to run out of their nappy creams so if you would like to check with us we will let you know if you need to bring in some more.

Remember you are most welcome to contribute to our program at any time if you have anything you would like your child to learn.

Until next month

Miss Liz, Miss Sandra and Miss Prema

I cannot believe it's the end of May already, how fast this year is going. It is starting to get busy in our room again with lots of our friends returning to care, which is wonderful to see. I am so proud with how most of the children have resettled back into care after time off.
A big congratulations to Thomas who welcomed his little baby brother Oliver at the end of April, we are so excited to meet him.

This month we sadly but excitedly said Goodbye to Darcy as she moved up to Senior Toddlers. It is always a bittersweet moment, when you know they are ready to move on from the Toddlers room, but you will also miss them. Archer and Emerson will be joining her by the end of June as well. Soon we will be welcoming some of the babies up from Nursery 2 which is exciting.

We have been focusing on our language development and skills this month. The children's language is coming along in leaps and bounds, so many words, sentences, and name recognition happening. We know so many of our peer's names now, as well as the Educators names. I am in the middle of making a photo board with little windows for the children to lift and see photos of themselves, peers and educators, to extend on their interest with peer's names. We also sing lots of songs like 'Bee Bee Bumble Bee' for name recognition. We are not just learning our names though, we are learning lots of other words and sentences. Helping develop children's language skills is as simple as talking to children, talking about what's happening, what is around them etc. Offering children words, but also giving them the chance to find their own words, its that tricky balance of talking but not talking too much.

Now things are starting to get back to normal, and having between 12-16 children a day, we are going back to having Indoor/outdoor play during the morning, giving the children the choice of where they want to play and what they want to play with. This is a great opportunity to promote independence and choice with children. Having the children spread out over a larger area also lowers the frequency of dis-agreements between the children as they have the space to play.

We are also looking at collecting boxes/packaging from food etc to turn our home corner into a shop, if you have any boxes etc at home, we would love to have them. Having 'food' that is from home is amazing for children and gives them that sense of connection.

Please don't forget to bring named jumpers for your child as the weather is a lot cooler now. Also required is a top sheet/sleep suit along with their bottom sheet for rest time. Please ensure bed sheets, clothes and bottles and formula containers are named, this makes it a lot easier for us to make sure children's belongings get back to their owner.

Looking forward to a fantastic June (can you believe that makes it halfway through 2020 already)

Miss Tracy, Miss Tomomi, Miss Luna, Miss Claudia and Miss Salma.

Senior Toddler one Newsletter Feb-March

Hi Senior Toddler one families,

The year is going so fast and we have made it through some tough times, thank you to all the support over this difficult time and welcome back to all the families returning we have missed you all and look forward to the rest of the year with all our friends back in the room.

It's getting colder now as we approach winter so we need to remember to pack warm clothes and some shoes and socks. We will endeavor to ensure that shoes and socks are on before the children enter the yard to afternoon play. Hats are still important and if you would like to leave your child's hat at care then we can label it and place it in the cupboards in the room for each day they attend.

We are focusing on our handwashing and hygiene over the next few months and we have a few handwashing songs that we are beginning to learn. In light of what is going on in the world I feel it is important to encourage children to learn the importance of correctly washing their hands.

Over the next few months, we will be focusing further on our self-help skills and independence. Toilet training can be a tricky time and we are here to help and support in any way we can. If you are ready to begin this journey at home and would like us to continue this when your child is here please come and see one of the team. We encourage parents to bring lots of changes of clothes and a wet bag if possible as this negates the need for the use of plastic bags for any soiled clothing. I have attached some links below that are helpful in deciding if your child is ready to toilet train.

We have some shows coming up in June, this is so exciting and we are happy that we are getting back to normal with everything.

Wednesday the 10th of June – Wild call animal show ---------- cost $9.00 per child

Thursday the 25th of June – Multicultural show $6.00 per child (this has been rebooked, if you have paid for this earlier in the year you will not have to pay again. Please come and see a team member if you can't remember if you have paid)

https://www.babycenter.com.au/a4384/toilet-training-is-my-child-ready

https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/healthyliving/toilet-training

https://www.startingblocks.gov.au/at-home/toilet-training-your-child/

Over the next few months, we will begin to explore our interactions with others and our environment. Our group times will focus on each child's voice and allowing them to choose what story we read or song we sing. Encouraging participation and allowing children to guide their own learning builds confidence and allows educators to better extend on learning.

Again myself Laura, Tabi, and Mariela are here if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Charmaine and the Senior Toddler 1 team.

 June already,

Wow I can't believe 6 months has flown by already.

This month we have started to regroup back to ST2 now the COVID 19 threat isn't as high.

It's so lovely to finally see the gorgeous smiling faces of our little friends again.

Now we are starting to find our feet again we are having to remind our friends to sit down, use our waking feet inside, and most importantly keep our hands to ourselves.

Popular activities within the room this month have included clay modeling, trucks, building blocks, the sensory table with a range of sensory items, plastic animals, logs and leaves, rocks, puzzles, painting, and drawing.

If you have any other toys or natural items such as bark, seashells, snakeskin, birds nests, twigs, logs cut into slices, wooden bowls etc I would greatly appreciate the donations.

During group time we continue to revise our shapes, alphabet, colours and counting 1 to 20.

Miss Mel has continued to teach our little friends the song 'Wash your hands' by the wiggles.

Not only is it teaching children how to wash their hands but also to counting to 15 whilst washing them. This has proven to be a reliable way to engage children whilst learning.

We are also encouraging coughing into our elbow, blowing our noses, washing our hands after we discard the dirty tissue, and singing the whole wash our hands song whilst washing our hands with soap. We stop washing once the song is finished.

It's important to remember now it's getting colder to please pack spare warm clothes, socks, shoes, and a jumper.

Welcome back once again and we look forward to continuing the year with you all.

Much love,

Miss Mel, Miss Irena, Miss Olivia and Miss Raman xxx

 Hi Pre Kindergarten 1 Families,

This month has seen us come back to some sort of normalcy, with us coming back to our room and seeing some of our old friends come back to the service. We created a new home corner with beautiful wooden food, water hyacinth baskets, ceramics, glass and cooking utensils. We are trying to make it look more home-like. The children have been cooking, laying out plates of food, having parties, and coming together to enjoy meals. We incorporated a baby doll area in the book nook, with baskets and blankets for the babies to sleep in, and bottles for the babies milk.

We acquired a low table for the animal and environmental area so the children can create homes for the animals with stones, velvet, woollen trees and we also added IKEA trays to add layers and dimensions to the environment- for instance the children helped create a waterfall for the aquatic dinosaurs.

A really good question was asked "What happens in a caterpillars cocoon?" We watched a quick YouTube clip about the butterfly life cycles, engaged in some books about bugs, and of course, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

We have been speaking about Autumn as the weather has gotten colder, to help the children with the transition of wearing summer clothes to winter clothes, also self-help skills with taking jumpers off and putting them on, socks and shoes.

We have been focussing on pre-writing skills. Pre-writing skills are the fundamental skills children need to develop before they are able to write. These skills contribute to the child's ability to hold and use a pencil, and the ability to draw, write, copy, and colour. A major component of pre-writing skills are the pre-writing shapes. These are the pencil strokes that most letters, numbers and early drawings are comprised of. These strokes include the following strokes: |, —, O, +, /, square, \, X, and Δ.

So far we have done X and O. Well done to Pre Kindergarten!

Thank you,

Miss Amy, Miss Chrystel, Miss Manita and Miss Dani.

 Wunya families,

What a crazy whirlwind of a month! I am so pleased to see so many of our lovely friends returning to care and our room returning to its former busy self. We have been busy reconnecting and rebuilding relationships and also learning about our wonderful country, Australia. We have learnt about the name of our states, capitals and territories. Significant land marks such as the Sydney Opera House and The Great Barrier Reef. All about our flag and the significance of it. And we have been singing our favourite song, I am Australian! We also made some Damper as we talked about bush tucker food. We will continue this learning topic into indigenous Australia as well. Just a reminder that it is now getting quiet cool in the afternoons, please ensure you are packing season appropriate changes of clothes (eg long pants and long sleeve shirts) and please always pack a CLEARLY NAMED jumper for your child.

As always, if you have any feedback or contribution for our room, please don't hesitate to let us know.

Miss Sarah, Miss Maria and Miss Dani

 Wunya families,

What an amazing fun time we have had in May. Welcome back to many of our friends who have been away, we have missed you all.

Happy Birthday to Aryo (9th) and Oscar (10th).

The children have loved show and share which started in April but continued into week three of May. They have been extending on their confidence, self esteem, verbal communication, listening and responding to questions. During May the children have brought in from home items from home that were special to them to discuss and share with their friends. We have started a show and share folder which is displayed on top of our lockers and we also bring it down for the children to look through and share their photos what they brought in for which letters. Check out the questions and answers that were discussed for your child's or friends show and shares.

Learning Pad and Journal

On top of the lockers you may have noticed our Learning Pad and Journal, this is where we document our group time discussions and individual learning. The children learn about the letter sounds and brain storm words what start with these sounds, then we record their answers on the learning pad. They practice their hand writing techniques through our Casey Caterpillar writing program. Practice writing numbers, drawing shapes and other activities linked to our letter focus. Our journal is mainly focus questions that we ask about topics to further their thinking skills – Why do we wear hats?

Feel free to look through these learning journeys, they are displayed on our lockers.
