Kidz Magic Edens Crossing February 2022 News

Welcome to our February 2022 Newsletter!

We have had many new faces join us recently, so welcome to you all. We look forward to working with you and being a part of your child's learning journey at KMEC.

Recycling and sustainability – We are always looking for donations of items that the children can use in creative art/craft projects. Unwanted items we would love include magazines, paper, and used clean cushions and rugs to create some quiet spaces around the Centre and the outdoor area.

Connecting with the community – We would like to extend our thoughts to all those impacted from the recent wet weather event and thank our families and staff for working with us to ensure those who needed to go to work could have care available to them.

We are continuing with our collecting of non-perishable food and groceries to assist the less fortunate in the community. Please feel welcome to donate non-perishable foods, toiletries or personal items and place them in the Community Pantry area in the foyer.

Policies and Procedures - For convenience you can find all of our policies online and view them at any time.

Absent for the day or arriving after 10.00am – If your child will be away for the day or will be coming in to the Centre after 10.00am can you please let us know. This would be greatly appreciated to assist with meal preparations and also staffing allocations.

Extra curricula activities - Ginger Sport will be recommencing their weekly sessions for our Kindergarten children as from Thursday 3rd March. These sessions are free to our enrolled Kindergarten children.

Centre Photos – save the date. The Centre has booked in for our 2022 Centre Photos. This will be held on Tuesday 10th to Thursday 12th May. It is still a little while away, and more details including orders and payments will be set out approximately four weeks prior to the booked date.

Sun safety – Just a reminder that we advocate for sun safety. You will find a Sunscreen Station and information about the daily UV rating in the foyer. As per our policy, singlets, tank tops, sleeveless tops and dresses are not considered sun safe. If your child does wear a singlet/tank top, sleeveless top/dress can you please pack a tee shirt in their bag to pop over this clothing to provide better sun protection in the outdoor environment. We have Children's Centre hats available. If your child has not received a Centre hat yet please see Suzie or Chandell so that we can arrange one for them.

Fussy Eaters - This month we would like to share with you an article about two contrasting feeding styles that can affect a child's food choices - controlling vs. trusting feeding styles.

Research has shown over and over that controlling feeding leads to unwanted or negative results most of the time. Simply put, children don't start eating better in response to their parents' pressures for them to do so.

You may say "I don't pressure my kids to eat, but my rule is that they have to at least try first" or "I never force them to eat, but I don't allow dessert if they refuse dinner". To many, it all may sound harmless and sensible. But, in fact, those very words are felt by children as pressure to eat. They have heard those words so many times that they know exactly their parents' intent when they use them.
