February 2020

It is almost the end of February ... how is your year going so far? Here at Piptree Sunnybank Hills we are very busy learning and progressing along our pathways.

From the office

At the beginning of a new year, I would like to take this opportunity to remind our families that we have Zero Debt Policy in place to ensure all accounts are one week in advance at all times.

If you have two consecutive declined payments, you will be contacted via phone\email to advise that your child/ren can be suspended until payment has been made.

This is to assist our families in meeting their Parent Enrolment Agreement to keep fees up to date and try to assist you in not creating a big debt.

Upon enrolment, we also advise our families that statements are emailed weekly and we ask that you check the amount due for debit is correct. If you feel there is something wrong or you need to change a payment amount, please feel free to contact me. I cannot change a debit on the day it has to be done a minimum the day before. Please keep this important information in mind.

I look forward to working together to get all of our accounts at $0.00 balance owing at all times.

Keep smiling, Natasa

Room reports

Pips (6 weeks to 2 years)

Hello everyone,

Welcome to Pip's room. It is time again to deliver news on the Pips' room. Some of our grown-up babies Divnoor, Ember and Emily have moved to the Sprout room. These children have adapted well into their new environment and love coming back into the Pips' room to get some cuddles. Although we miss them in the Pips' room, we wish them the best of luck!

Due to the wet weather last month, we kept our babies busy inside most of the time. We kept bringing our outside toys (e.g. rocking horse, pushbikes, big blue car, etc.) inside so the babies would not miss their outdoor exploration. The babies did art activities such as finger painting and stamp painting. They also played with recycled materials (e.g. large cardboard boxes were used to create tunnels and empty tissue boxes and formula tins were used as musical instruments). During group time, Tomas, Emilia, Ravia and Madeline loved turning pages of books, looking at the pictures and listening to stories. Through these activities, babies are able to learn the value of books and stories.

If you have any queries about your babies, please feel free to talk to Annie or me.

Until next time,

Ms Sanchita and Ms Annie

Sprouts (15 months to 2 years)

Hello and welcome everyone in our little sprouts Room. My name is Amanpreet Kaur and I am the lead educator in sprouts room. we would like to say a big welcome to our families and children.

Here are some of our focuses in our room:

Now we start learning to set in our group time. children develop their social skills by getting to know their friends and learn through play with their peers. Besides, we will start with color recognition, number cards 1 to 5, body parts and we also singing our favorite songs. Children continue developing their language skills to express our emotions as well as learning to take turns in our learning and play.

Children have been exploring their world with their sensory capability. For instance, children have a great time participating in different sensory activities such as playdough, sandpit, paper cutting, waterplay. We have also been exploring the different areas in our were children racing with the cars and we also used the bubble wraps to do some painting and made the runway walk. All these activities help children to develop their fine motor skills, manipulation skills, hand-eye coordination, and imagination.

Toilet training- some of our children are really good with toileting.

The curriculum in our room emphasizes the outcomes in the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and our intentional teaching strategies support children's independent learning. We would like to encourage family input regarding our learning stories which are displayed.

We look forward to working collaboratively with you on the children's learning and development. Thank you.

Miss Amanpreet Kaur

Blossom 1 (3 to 4 years)

Hi, all Blossoms 1 parents,

A warm welcome to your new friend and family Malakai who have joined us recently. We are looking forward to getting to know all our families and having the opportunity to include everyone in our programming and planning.

This year we are starting off by helping the children feel a sense of belonging and comfort within the room, by speaking to our families and encouraging them to share some information with us about children's likes, interests, fears, etc…..We will be sending home All About Me sheet for all to fill in and we would love to hear from you all. To further help us connect with all our families we will be sending home weekly a new buddy for the children, his name is Scooter and he is a teddy. Throughout the year each child will be able to take scooter home for the week for a visit, starting from the 17 of February. We are hoping that as he visits each family, he can come back to us with some photos, drawings, writing about his time with each family. The scooter will start off within the Blossoms 1 room and we look forward to seeing how his adventure goes. We will focus on remembering all our new friends' names, starting to look at the alphabet and letter that our name starts with, numbers and color recognition and getting to know the children's interests so we can plan further for the room. Also, we will be working on enforcing our room routine and toilet training as hygiene is very important and essential for the children's health.

Just a friendly reminder, please read and return the notices that we have sent to families and also to bring in a family photo as we will be displaying it on the family photo wall. Also please don't forget to bring sunscreen, a hat, a water bottle and a spare change of underwear and a change of clothes.

Please do not hesitate to speak to Ms Nikki or Miss Briohny if you have any questions or would like to share something from home with us.

Blossom 2 (3.5 to 5 years)

A warm welcome to all the little learners and their families to our Blossom 2 Room!

We started off the year slow and steady but nevertheless, it has been a pleasure getting to know all the children. For the past few months, we spent our time warming children up to the classroom routine. In line with the kindergarten learning guidelines, we are building children's sense of security and trust. This is done by including children when planning for play and new learning opportunities, encouraging children to seek for help by modeling and modelling ways to interact with peers. By now, our little learners have settled in nicely and are forming lovely friendships with each other.

We also recognize the language community in our room and celebrate the wonderful explorers in our room! At the beginning of the month, we learned about the Chinese New Year, the story behind the reason why we light fireworks and the zodiac signs. Next few months we will focus on 'my identify' in-depth starting with 'all about me' and then 'my body'.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to talk to us!

Until next time,

Miss Yu-mei and Cindy

Poppies (3.5 to 5 years)

Greetings from the kindergarten room, otherwise known as Poppies.

This is our first edition of the kindergarten newsletter, so we wish to extend a warm welcome to all our new and existing kindergarten families.

Transition

The children have all transitioned very well into the kindergarten routines and program with hardly a tear. We are very proud of their courage and bravery as they say goodbye to their families even with a teary eye (at times).

Identity

What have the children been up to in the kindergarten room?

What is essential for us as their teachers especially in the first few weeks of starting in a new environment, meeting new teachers, is to establish trusting and reciprocal relationships with not just the children but their families, too. We set out to know each individual child, what makes them unique. We observe what their interests, likes/dislikes and capabilities are. That is why we also send out an All About Me form that provides additional information to gain more insight into your child and your child's life. This is a great communication tool in building a trusting relationship. Through our observations and conversations with the children and their families, we are now obtaining different perspectives of each child which is great because we can now build on all areas of their holistic development.

EDUCA

What is EDUCA? Are you linked to EDUCA?

EDUCA is an online learning tool that provides you with information on your child's learning experiences whilst in kindergarten. Stories in the form of journals and observations with pictures, linked to the Kindergarten Learning Outcomes indicate your child's learning through play. Parents can also contribute towards their children's learning by sharing relevant information or anything exciting they did during the holidays, the weekend, a new pet, baby, ANYTHING. This is how we link home and kindergarten experiences, supporting kindergarten learning outcomes for your child.

If you are not linked to EDUCA, please come see me.

Meet-and-greet

On Thursday, 27 February 2020 from 5:15-6:00 the two kindergarten rooms otherwise known as Poppies and Blossoms 2 will hold a meeting with the families to explain how we work towards a smooth transition into prep 2021 as well as your aspirations for your child in kindergarten. This way we work collaboratively in meeting mutual goals that will benefit your child's holistic growth.

In conclusion

We adhere to our open-door policy. Please, if you have any concerns or want an update on your child's wellbeing in the room, don't hesitate to call or leave a message either on EDUCA or in the parent-teacher communication book situated on the back lockers shelve in the room.

Here's to a fantastic year!

Cheers!

Ms Tertia (ECE) and Ms Raazia (Assistant)
