News from Kylie

We are quickly approaching the middle of the year.Hopefully the second half of the year will be as busy as the first half, if not more.

We have said good bye to Miss Jamie lee and Miss Kamani this month.  We thank them for all there outstanding efforts and wish them both luck in there future endeavours.  We are now welcoming Miss Kiranpreet in the poppies room who will be assisting Miss Brie.  We also welcome Miss Palwinder who will be the new Schoolies lead educator am and pm and the float around the service.  Please help us to make them feel welcome by saying hello next time you see them.

Phoning in ill or late:

Please help us by phoning in if you are arriving late to the centre. Our inside curriculum take place from 9.15am and we encourage all children to be here by this time to ensure they are receiving the highest quality of learning possible. If you are arriving after this time please phone the centre to let us know as we will be deeming children absent after 10am with no phone call. Please also phone if you are not attending the centre due to absence or illness. This will help us out a lot.

Cold and Flu Weather

Yes it is that time again and we can't stress enough that if your child has cold or flu symptoms and is not well enough to attend child care i.e. has a green runny nose; has a temperature; is lethargic or obviously not their normal self; has vomited during the night; is complaining of aches and pains; then please keep them at home until they are well.It is extremely important that we get all parents on board with this as viruses spread very quickly in the childcare environment.

Fundraising

Mother day stall was a great  success and we raised $60. Thank you for all the families who participated.

The Home style bake stall was also a good turn out this year raising $80 once again thank you for your ongoing support  and helping the centre raise some money.

What a busy month we have had in the Pip's room!

Firstly we welcome Miss Jennifer to the room as educator. Miss Jennifer will be working in the room almost every day now as we have become very busy with almost 8 little Pip's most days of the week. Miss Jennifer is currently on leave for a few more weeks but will be back soon. While she is away Miss Raman is in our room with us.

Secondly we would like to say good bye to Noah who has just moved up into the Sprouts room. Noah will be missed but we hope he enjoys his time up in the big room Sprouts.

Can I please ask that all parents fill out their child's daily communication sheet every morning and then read and sign it every afternoon on pick up. This sheet tells carers what the child needs and at what times according to the night and morning they have had.

I also need to advise all parents that children's dummies need to be stored in a small container with a lid or with the original dummy lid attached to it please.  this will help with no cross contamination and always being labeled.

This month we have been focusing a lot on the children's individual milestones and trying to meet the age appropriate ones for each child. Well done to Harlow who is now crawling on all fours instead of commando crawling. Charlotte is reaching and grasping at toys infront of her. Jordan, Hamish, Lucy, Harlow and Keenan are all pulling themselves up on things and moving around the furniture in an attempt to walk. Joshua, Hendrix, Mikayla and Naseem and are all confidently walking and are now learning to climb and balance.

Please feel free to come and see me for a chat with any questions or concerns that you may have.

Thank you

Miss Kerrie x

 Welcome to another Sprouts update!

In May the children have been learning where their different facial features are, Miss Sarah made up a face where the children guess where the eye, nose and mouth go. The children are also working on colour recognition and for those who know their colours they are beginning to sort the colours into boxes. Each day Miss Suki and I are encouraging the children to share their toys and learn to play together having ball play where they push the ball back and forth to each other is a great way to assist them in developing this skill. We were lucky enough to get some recycled yogurt and fruit salad containers Miss Sarah made them into drums and shakers for us to explore and make noise with. We are continuing to assist the children in developing their gross motor and balancing skills in climbing and ball play, on Tuesday Mr Wes the soccer man lent the sprouts children some soccer balls they had a blast kicking and throwing them around. We also welcomed Noah to the Sprouts room we look forward to working with you and watching you grow and develop.

In the month of June, the sprouts children will be working to achieve their goals in communication developing, colour recognition, starting shapes, matching colours, learning where different body parts are and continuing to develop their gross motor skills and balance in movement activities.

 Hi everyone!

Miss Heidi, myself (Miss Tiahn) and the Buds children have had a great first half of the year and we can't believe how fast it's been going! We would just like to update you on what we have been doing lately in the Buds room and what we get to look forward to in the oncoming months. 😊

Firstly we would like to welcome Samuel and Jazayah to the Buds room! Jazayah has transitioned from the Sprouts/Toddlers room, and Samuel is new to Piptree 😊

The Buds children have made outstanding progress with achieving outcomes and goals and we are so super proud! Some of our topics that we have been focusing on in the past such as colours, numbers, and shapes, the children have impressed us so much with how far they have come from when we first started to now! The Buds children are able to identify almost all of their numbers 1-10, all of their colours and all of their shapes! We have been practising each and every day at group time and it truly shows! 😊 With just a little bit more practice, the children will have memorised them all! 😊

Seeing as the children have been doing so well with those topics, we decided to start incorporating letters and identity into our group time and activities. Not only are children learning to develop letter recognition, but also are developing a sense of identity. I (Miss Tiahn) made alphabet flashcards, and for each letter I added a picture/photo of something that relates to each letter. For example. "A is for – Adisyn and Alexandra", and on the back of the flashcard was a photo of Adisyn and Alexandra, etc… This way, children are learning letters, as well as beginning to recognise the letters in their name, and also have a sense of identity by seeing their photo. The other activity we created, was, we took a photo of each of the children, then we cut each photo in half. The aim of the game was the children had to find and match up each half of the photos and put them together to make the full photo! These activities have proven to be a success as all the children have shown high curiosity, interest and persistence.

The children have also become curious and persistent learners as they are all open to new challenges and showed exceeding interest in experimenting and engaging in new activities! This month Miss Heidi and I have been incorporating different kinds of science experiments and art works each week and the children express so much wonder and interest in these. The children show excitement and eagerness to find out what we will be experimenting with and learning next! 😊

Miss Heidi and I are also proud of the children for their excellent attempts whilst toilet training! The children have been becoming more independent and letting us know when they need to go and also doing a fantastic job at undressing/dressing themselves and washing/drying their hands once they have finished. We have also had some children begin to sleep at rest time with no sleep time nappy!! Well Done Buds! 😊

We have also been continuing to incorporate a lot of outdoor play experiences, helping physical development, keeping active, discussing sun safety, hand/eye co-ordination, sensory skills, cognitive skills as well as developing social skills as we combine with the children and educators from other classes for outdoor play to develop more trusting friendships/relationships within the whole Piptree Community 😊

We are so incredibly proud of our Buds children and how far they have come in such a short time! With our ongoing encouragement and by working collaboratively with families, the Buds children will continue to smash out their goals and become the best that they can be!!

Can't wait to see what the next few weeks/months have installed for us!!

Thankyou!

Miss Tiahn & Miss Heidi 😊

 Hi all!

What a busy couple of months we have had in blossoms! We have welcomed in our class Coda from Buds class, and welcomed Lex to the centre. Welcome guys! We hope you all feel welcomed in!

We have been so busy learning letters all year that we forgot to go over colours. So we went back and did a couple of weeks where we focused on learning colours. We did lots of rainbow painting, colour sorting and colour collage over these weeks to engage the children in educational play linking to colours.

We celebrated Ava's birthday with a little afternoon party. Her family brought in birthday cake to share before we all did dancing together on the mat!

During a conversation at lunch about honey on our sandwiches, we had a few questions. Where does honey come from? How it is made? And what makes the honey? We have spent a good couple of weeks extending on the children's interest in bees and honey. We have learnt that bees collect pollen from flowers, take it to the hive where the worker bees flap their wings over the honey (to evaporate excess water). One activity we did was when Miss Teagan brought in some real honeycomb in for us to see. We had to remove the top layer of wax to be able to get to the honey inside first! We got to touch and taste the honey! This was such a fun ooy gooy messy activity! To begin with, we learnt what colours bees were, what body parts they had and what a bees hive was. We also learnt that inside a bee hive is 3 main bees – a queen bee, who lays the eggs, a worker bee who makes the honey and an adult bee is one that has recently hatched from the egg. So we have done lots of crafts to engage the children in meaningful activities which link to bee's.

We had a tooth fairy and dental visit. He taught us using song and dance about dental hygiene and dental care.

 KINDERGARTEN

The Kindergarten Program is about preparing your child for Prep, here at Piptree we are offering children lots of opportunities to play, learn and grow.

This term we have sadly said goodbye to our educator Miss Jamie-Lee, but in her absence, we say hello to Miss Kiran. Miss Kiran is taking over as the Educator in our Poppies room. The children and I have spent some time getting to know Kiran better and helping her learn all about being in Poppies!

Term 2 has been fun and full of lots learning adventures! Over the months of May and June Poppies have been exploring a variety of things through play.

Poppies have enjoyed shared reading experiences, discussing narratives. Some of our favourites are, "The Ginger Breadman" and "The Three Billy Goats Gruff". We talk about the settings, characters, and sequence events from the stories.

Poppies have engaged and experimented with literacy in personally meaningful ways, with some children helping to create a classroom mail box to send letters! This has been a fascistic way to extend children interest in writing their own names and learning letters!

I am available to share information with you about how your child is progressing. There is time for quick chats informally with you on drop off and pick up times, but please contact me to arrange a time to have a more formal chat about your child's progress.

Miss Brie and Miss Kiran 😊

ELLA NEWS

The aim of the ELLA Program is for children to have early experience in another language and culture to encourage language learning in the later years.

What's new with The Polyglots?

Learning Italian has been lots of fun!

In the Picnic learning experience from App 4, children are encouraged to reproduce language modelled by Bim. While having a picnic, Bim says 'I'm hungry' and 'I'm thirsty' in Italian. Fruit and drinks are concealed in the picnic basket and provided by a monkey when Bim says he is hungry or thirsty. They also appear when children speak into the microphone. As a whole group we practiced repeating the phrases!

Poppies also enjoyed taking turns to bake a cake and count candles in App 3 the Birthday Party.

Learning environment-

During the last two months we have had many special visitors to our classroom. The first was Recycle Man, he came to talk with us about recycling to help save the planet. This was a really fun interactive workshop that Poppies engaged in.

The second special visitor was Dentist Erik and Jana McTwinkles the Tooth Fairy. They came to speak with us about dental health and keeping pour teeth strong and healthy.

Then we had a special visitor from Shailer Park Primary School to our classroom. Her name is Mrs. Delahunty and she came to talk with us about big school next year! We listened to a story about 'Pete the Cat' and then we completed a worksheet. The activity required us to trace a word, write our own name and glue on Pete's shoes!

It has been a very busy month with visitors!

SHOW AND TELL

Show and Tell has numerous benefits for young children. These early language experiences help to build effective communication and listening skills that are essential for a young child's learning. Poppies children really love their show and tell time. Miss Kiran and I do however strongly encourage the children to bring in a book or an item of significance to show the class.

Our suggestions include; a photo, a favourite book, a holiday souvenir, or something special they have made at home.

We appreciate your support with helping your child to choose an item for show and share.

During term 2 we have seen many great and exciting items for show and tell! Keep up the great work 😊

Miss Kiran and I are looking forward to see what new and exciting items you find next term!
