 Hello from the Nursery,

We have grown so much in the first 6 months of this year. We are reaching many milestones such as self-feeding, walking and chatting. Our ability to take turns and share is increasing, we enjoy singing, dancing and playing alongside each other.

Our nursery children have enjoyed many Art and Craft, with soft feathers & bright paint a favourite. We do wear smocks to keep our clothes protected however little fingers seem to get under onto the shirts.

Some meal ideas for Winter to keep tummy's warm.

Ideas for cooked lunches

Baby quiches, Pasta, any type of Left over's, Baked beans just to give a few ideas.

As babies become older, they tend to change their meal & sleeping routine. From 12 months most children can have awake time for over 3 to 4 hours and is ready to start dropping milk feeds. Remember while at kindy, our social interactions with group times, art and craft and their interactions with others may differ their meal and sleep times daily. We use baby's cues to signal what their individual needs may be.

As we increase meals, bottles are recommended morning and night, with milk in a Sipa cup with their lunch. A sample routine for baby over 12 months

During the colder months it is common that your child may wake more often.

www.kidspot.com have a good article on Safe sleeping temperature for babies.

We are still using Educa weekly and would also like to see parents send a photo or message us about your child's weekends, exciting news or changes in day schedule .

Thanks Allison & Kanako

 Hello from Toddlers!

We have been so busy over the past few months welcoming new friends into our room and having 4 nursery children join us. Everyone has settled in nicely and Miss Megha and myself are discovering everyone's unique personalities. We are beginning to also see some beautiful little friendships starting to blossom before our eyes.

We have seen so much growth within all the toddlers as they are beginning to discover, ask questions and want to explore the things around them. They are also beginning to copy each other's actions and by doing this they are learning to extend on their own play experiences. We are all getting better at taking turns and sharing our toys within our room. We are also focusing on self help skills at the moment like drinking from a normal cup, using our spoon to eat and putting our own hats on. As you collect your child at the end of the day please help your child put their hat away into their hat pocket. I have recently made new identification tags for them.

As it is becoming cooler in the mornings and nights, please ensure you have a jumper, socks and closed in shoes for your child. In their day bag please also pack a spare set of clothes and jumper just incase they get wet while washing their hands or playing outside. Toddlers do love water.

The toddlers have been really enjoying brushing their teeth still at our morning group time. Every toddler needs to bring in a new toothbrush please so we can continue to enjoy this special part of our morning routine.

Miss Sheree and Miss Megha

 Hello Junior kindy parents,

This month we just want to send out a few reminders.

  • It's time for new tooth brushes again, please bring two. One to replace the old one and one as a back up.
  • We are asking if you could please arrive by 8:45am due to our core routine starting then.
  • This is our transition time in singing and preparing the children to come inside. By 9am we eat our morning tea. So please try to arrive ready for your child to be apart of preparation for our day ahead.
  • If you attend on a Thursday we do offer a music class. From hey-de-ho with Miss Eloise, the class is held in our room and all the children really enjoy the new songs we learn each time. Its not just singing songs too, through the songs Miss Eloise sings she also has a lesson that goes alongwith it. Last week we learnt about the weather, through singing and dancing.
  • If you would like to sign up just check the poster in the hallway for the website to sign up on.
  • Recently we have been learning the rainbow song. If you have heard your child singing it at home and want to join in. check out Hey-de-ho I can sing a rainbow auslan on YouTube. It will help you learn the sing language to go along with it.
  • During this winter please pack extra long pants and shirts, even an extra jumper if you can. Since we still do have accidents in our pants and spill water on us at lunch.
  • Dress with layers, it does get hotter during the day in the room. So dressing in extra pants over the top or extra shirts over the top. And we can take off the layers as we come inside and place them back on before going out.

Thanks everyone! From Miss Chloe and Miss Tracey

Our class have grown in numbers, children have moved up from Junior kindy as well as a couple of new children. It is so lovely to see the children forming friendships with the ones that have already been in the room this year.

We have been focusing on recognizing shapes and numbers. This is all going to take time over the year. Also getting more in to the sensory activities, such as crafts as few children ask for painting etc.

Please remember 'parent input' is a big part of our program. I try and add this children's interest from home life in to our room where possible. Please write down your children's weekend adventures and interest in the communication book provided on the lockers or by messaging myself on the Educa program where you can also add a photo of an experience.

As it is getting colder please consider a blanket for nap time, not to big as need to be in their lockers with their bag but can cover their little body. And naming all belongings brought in.

Thank you
Miss Jessie

 Dear Kindergarten families,

I cannot believe that there is only three full weeks left of Term Two! The kindergarten children have come a long way since the beginning of the year, and I am proud of their achievements. Recently, the kindergarten children have been developing both their fine and gross motor skills.

Fine motor skills are those that involve a refined use of the small muscles which control the hand, fingers and thumb. With the development of these skills, a child is able to complete important tasks such as writing, feeding oneself, buttoning and zippering. Little hands need to develop dexterity and strength. Toys, clothing fasteners, safe scissors and play dough are all tactile examples of practices that facilitate fine motor development. Even doing age appropriate tasks in the kitchen are great ways to help build fine motor skills. These types of "play" activities and manipulation skills will actually help prepare a child to hold and use a pencil. The ability to do so is the first step in learning to colour, draw and ultimately write.

Gross motor (physical) skills are those which require whole body movement, and which involve the large (core stabilising) muscles of the body to perform everyday functions, such as standing and walking, running and jumping, and sitting upright at the table. They also include eye-hand coordination skills such as ball skills (throwing, catching, kicking) as well as riding a bike or a scooter and swimming.

Our focus letters and diagraphs for the reminder of Term Two are:

10-14 June: 'J'

17-21 June: 'OA'

24-28 June: 'LE'

The Kindergarten room have begun our learning journey about living things and what all living things need. Healthy food is an important aspect of our wellbeing. As a part of our learning journey we will go on an excursion to Woolworths to have a tour behind the scenes with a key focus on healthy food choices. Due to legal requirements, on an excursion we require a ratio of one adult for every four children. If you are available to attend the excursion, we would be very grateful.

When: 28th June 2019

Where: Woolworths Calamvale North

678 Compton Rd, Calamvale QLD 4116
